Anaesthesia Feedback is a purpose built secure app to allow anaesthetists to initiate, gather and collate survey data from patients.
Anaesthesia Feedback has been developed by a group of anaesthetists, who understand that the process using paper forms as provided by the Royal College of Anaesthetists is cumbersome, open to bias and not necessarily confidential or anonymous!
There is emerging evidence that the process of continuous feedback to anaesthetists may translate into improvements in practice at the individual and peer-group level.
How does the app work?
• The questionnaire used is a version of the Royal College of Anaesthetists patient feedback questionnaire.
1. Feedback via QR code.
A QR code is created within the app which can be scanned using a mobile device. This code gives direct access to the feedback questionnaire, specifically for the individual anaesthetist.
2. Feedback using Cards.
Feedback Cards are created within the app.
These are to be given to patients to use at their convenience.
The cards are incorporated into a PDF document for download and printing.
The card clearly states who the anaesthetist is.
Cards are valid for a 30 day period after creation.
The patient can use the URL stated on the card where the 8 figure ID should be entered;
After entering the unique ID on the card and clicking submit, the patient is taken to an online version of the patient feedback form.
Alternatively, the patient can use the QR code on the card.
Scanning this code (for example on smartphone) will take the patient straight into the feedback questionnaire with no need for entering a unique ID.
3. Feedback via Secure Messaging
With consent, the patient is emailed a link to a secure (encrypted) message.
A password, chosen by the patient is required to open (decrypt) this message.
The secure message includes details of how to access the patient questionnaire.
If they do not respond to the initial email, a reminder is sent at 10 days.
Patient email addresses are store in secure encrypted format temporarily.
Email addresses are deleted after the patient replies or after 10 days.
No personal details are contained in our emails.
PDF Report
Anaesthesia Feedback allows anaesthetists to create a PDF document that summarises feedback data automatically.
The document includes details of scoring over the array of questions asked and provides mean and median scores.
Free text comments made by patients are also included in the PDF report.
The anaesthetist can reflect on the patient free text comments and these reflections are included in the PDF report.
